I enter the western reaches of the preserve by late morning and climb 5,000 feet within the first 30 miles. Some of the inclines are the steepest I've experienced so far on my trip. Good thing the van has a v10, it just purrs up the mountainside.
The mountains are quite colorful, may shades of red are evident.
