Located in Yellowstone National Park, WY, Mud Volcano promises interesting views of turbulent pools of hot and muddy water, hillsides strewn with steam-cooked trees, and bizarre, barren landscapes. All topped off with unusual and abundant odors emitted by the geological processes that are very active in this region.

"In May 1999, a wisp of steam appeared here. Asphalt was peeled back to reveal this sunken pool. The paved area acted like a cap to hold in geothermal energy as underground waters move toward Yellowstone River. Perhaps the geothermal energy could no longer be contained; perhaps the pipe you see inside the pool broke. No one knows for sure."
