I'm pretty familiar with the Adirondacks, this'll mark my third visit to the park. It's rather hard to get bored with the Adirondacks because of its massive size, all 6 million acres of it! I've arrived during the perfect time of the year, when the leaves are at peak color and the weather is still sunny but not hot and muggy. Even the bugs have already sung their swan song and are no longer a menace. Life is good!

It's been about a week since I last biked and I'm itching to get back into the saddle. For some reason I have a figure of 60 miles floating around in my brain, so today it looks like I'll be going for distance. After reviewing my GPS maps, I decide to ride an out and back route, starting and ending near Saranac Lake and extending 30 miles out past Tupper Lake. The weather is cool but pleasant, certainly a good sign for the good biking fun that is nearly at hand.

I'm really looking forward to seeing all the colorful leaves on the ride. Fall is, by far, my favorite season of the year. On the other end of the season enjoyment spectrum is winter, of course. Aside from going skiing and driving in snow, I really hate winter. Snow! You can't bike in it, it always seems to be falling in these parts, and to top it off, you have to shovel the stuff. That's one of the things I love about Portland, Oregon. It rains in the winter, and as we all know, rain doesn't require shoveling.

Okay, enough ranting and raving about winter weather. I'm here to put some serious bike rubber to the road, I've got 60 miles to cover here in the next few hours. It's going to be a close one, however, I need to be on task with no goofing off on this ride. I've calculated I'll have just enough daylight to complete the ride. So, chop, chop, let's get going!
