CONCRETE  SHIP

Seattle, Washington

Monday, July 12, 2004

The Pioneer Square section of downtown Seattle WA sports a very strange parking garage. Since much of downtown is situated on a hill now carved out and made undulant by human hands. Forced by gravity, structures angle to the landscape creating interesting contortions of design. At first glance the garage looks like the bow of a ship thrusting out of the terra firma. On second glance one recognizes it to be a parking structure but it appears cars parked there couldn't possibly sit on the level. But not true, it's all perfectly level, it's the surrounding landscape that is rather angular. This is one of the things I love about Seattle, it's like a mini San Francisco. Very interesting and pleasing to the eye.
