What in God's name are these contraptions? I stumble upon them in the San Juan Islands. They must have been used for something positively evil. I mean look at them. Surely, they were something created in the fertile mind of movie director Tim Burton, were built but discarded, because they were just too sinister for even his movies.
While I like my story best, the more mundane explanation is they were once used to generate electricity for a resort, at least that's what I'm told. But, maybe the storyteller is hiding behind this all too believable explanation. Maybe there is more to it that he is willing or able to tell. Perhaps the machines are listening to our conversation, waiting patiently with rust-baited breath, for just the right opportunity. And what opportunity that is I shudder to think.
