Every once in a while you get a surprise while driving. Sometimes it's caused by seeing a police car in your rear view mirror that wasn't there seconds ago, other times you receive it when backing up and something wanders into the path of your vehicle, like a car or perhaps a child. Today, while driving the Interstate in Central Mississippi, I get a different kind of surprise. The unique surprise of being hunted by a vehicle much larger than my own.
In the distance, I notice a truck quickly approaching me from behind in the fast-lane. There's something odd about the truck, it appears to have something attached to its front grill. As it gets closer, I recognize the unusual addition, it's a set of sharp shark teeth! I get a good laugh at the sight, a truck with teeth. But, wait! Here's a trucker with attitude. Being so much larger than my van, he could easily shove me off the road if he wants to.
Sporting teeth similar to the P40s used during WWII in China, the Flying Tigers used shark teeth to instill fear into the Japanese invading forces. Trading in air currents for asphalt, wings for tires, this tractor-trailer driver must consider me the enemy? Wisely, I stay over in the right lane and brace myself for the worst.
Fortunately, he passes by without indicent, much to my relief.
