On the way to Spirit Lake I cross the Washington/Idaho border.

Passing through the small town of Spirit Lake on the way to the lake, which, for obvious reasons, is nearby.

I soon encounter the lake and come upon the public access site which is both crowded and looks rather neglected, so I press on along the lakeside in search of better scenery.

The remaining 3 or so miles of the paved road border private property. I'm hoping for another public beach but it's not meant to be so I have to settle for distance shots. Oh well, better than nothing. It turns out to be a really nice lake. Many people are enjoying its refreshment, a welcome reprieve from today's stiflingly hot weather.

On the way to Sandpoint I decide to add a dogleg to Bayview, a small community that borders the south end of Lake Pend Oreille.

A little local history.
