I soon find myself in an exhibition gallery. It serves as a smorgasbord of tiny tastes, to give the visitor a sampling of the breadth and width of Smithsonian's vast and varying collections.

All of the items on display are interesting, including the world's largest frog, sporting equipment of famous athletes, ...

... Prince's Yellow Cloud electric guitar, a fragment from the ill-fated Hindenburg, ...

... an Edison lamp with bamboo filament, the dollar bill flown into space aboard Apollo 15, space shuttle heat shield and insulation tile, and a wood fragment from the Wright brothers' hangar.

The last item to catch my eye is this huge slab of petrified cedar.
