Architecturally speaking, sometimes mixing old and new styles is a good thing, they complement each other. Unfortunately, sometimes function overrides tasteful design. Case in point, the marriage of 20th Century gutter technology to classical adobe, as illustrated at San Francisco de Asis Church near Taos, New Mexico.
I do a double-take when I first see the church. I can't believe my eyes, the gutters just didn't fit into my perception of what an adobe church is supposed to look like. Maybe they should have camouflaged the gutters, perhaps painting them beige like the surrounding adobe? Just a thought.
