I wake to a sunny morning and feel a growing anticipation for the day, my first full day in the Adirondacks.

Curious about what Cranberry Lake looks like in the daytime, I take my campsite path to the lakeshore and discover a really nice view of the lake, too bad I don't have a canoe.

If I did I would paddle out to that little island out yonder and upon arrival, after pulling the canoe out of the water, I would set out on a little expedition. That would have been fun. It would have made me feel like a little kid again, all wonder-eyed in anticipation of great adventure.

Across the lake the trees are calling to me now with their colored voices, beckoning me to start my day, for they and their woody neighbors all across the Adirondacks hold the keys to my upcoming colorful adventure.
