Just outside of Carlsbad the scenery turns flat and boring. So much so, I feel the need to pull over and search for something of interest.
After parking the van next to a short hill, I scale the mound in the hopes of seeing something worthwhile on the other side. As I climb I notice the ground is littered with a curious assortment of colorful rocks and sundries.
Peering over the hilltop I see more flat and boring terrian. Certainly I must be in "Scenery Hell" right now.
Strangely enough, after a bit more driving, the landscape turns from desert to farmland. Where does all the irrigated water come from?
Soon I pass through Artesia, New Mexico. Like the desert, this place looks a bit sparce too.
