Washington, D.C.

FDR's statement to Congress is inscribed here, it states: "The structure of world peace cannot be the work of one man, or one party, or one nation... it must be a peace which rests on the cooperative effort of the whole world." Looking forward in time after FDR's death, Eleanor Roosevelt becomes one of the first United Nations delegates.

The former First Lady was no stranger to politics, however, having been very active politically when FDR was still alive. Eleanor accepts the position to further promote FDR's ideals and ideas concerning how best to form this new league of nations. The statue and accompanying United Nations seal was created by commissioned artist Neil Estern, the same artist who sculpted the FDR and Fala ensemble located in the Third Term Room.

My tour is winding down now. The last quotes are a send-off of sorts, they read: "The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith." -- "Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom of from Want, Freedom from Need."

The exit is a hand. I look at the sign and I think of FDR. I can see him now, slowly wheeling himself down the walkway, with ole faithful Fala trotting at his side.

Wow, I must say, what an incredible individual FDR was. America was lucky to have him as President during one of its most darkest and challenging eras. First the Great Depression, followed by World War II, FDR managed to hold the Nation together with his high spirit, courage, and determination to make the world a better place for all of mankind. I really like the Memorial's unique character, its wide open spaces, and its multiple-room themes. As a whole the memorial provides a peaceful, restful area where one can rest and reflect upon the life of a great man.

I rate my tour of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial a respectable 4.5 thumbs up, a near perfect rating.
