Finally the upward grind is over. I reach the top of Fifes Ridge and I find myself looking at this view to the north.

The top of the ridge is flat and makes for easy peddling.

I've reached the singletrack portion of the trail. I'll have to share it with the motocross folks but that's not a problem, I'll hear them coming well in advance. To avoid them all I do is pull aside and let them pass (fast-forward, only 2 riders passed me by).

There's a bit more uphill from the singletrack trailhead. Some of it I can motor up but sometimes I'm forced to dismount and push the bike, all the while cursing out loud because the map indicates the start of the trailhead goes downhill. Lesson reinforced, bike maps don't always depict reality. But soon the downhill will come and my aching legs will get the much needed relief they desire.

It's always good to verify that you are where you think you are.
