Oh geeze, it must be closed today. It is early November after all.

Sufficiently frustrated, I grab a hold of two chain anchors in the parking lot and give them a good pull to help alleviate my annoyed state. Damn it! I was really looking forward to a boat ride today.

All I can do is look at the boats from the parking lot. Operated by Memphis Queen Riverboats, four riverboats are docked here and include the Memphis Queen II (two-decked 80-foot sternwheeler), the Memphis Showboat (three-deck 110-foot passenger barge), the Memphis Queen III (three-deck 110-foot true sternwheeler), and the Island Queen (three-deck 100-foot sternwheeler). The operator offers a variety of services, including sightseeing, dinner cruises, special events, and private charters.

On my drive up here I noticed a large tugboat pushing multiple barges upriver. I think I'm going to chase it, I'd like to get some pictures of it in action. I need to drive north a bit to catch up with it. In the process, I pass through the western portions of Memphis.

I drive to Mississippi River Greenbelt Park. The park is a great place to observe all comings and goings on the Mississippi since it borders the river for more than 2 miles. In the distance to the south I see the Hernando Desoto Bridge spanning the great Mississippi which flows between Tennessee and Arkansas in these parts.
