Washington, D.C.
Along each side of the entranceway I find 24 bas-relief sculpture panels. As a series, they depict America in the throes of war preparation and support. Twelve panels on the north side show scenes from the Atlantic front, the other twelve panels on the south side illustrate scenes from the Pacific front.
Here's a panorama of the Memorial, as viewed from the Altantic side, looking southward toward the Pacific side.
I decide to first check out the Atlantic side of things. Traveling northward, I slowly approach the 43-foot Atlantic pavilion. Along the way, to my right, I watch numerous 17-foot pillars pass me by, each represents a single State or Territory within the Union.
I soon arrive at the Atlantic pavilion. Looking overhead, I see four bronze American eagles. Together they hold a victory laurel, in celebration and memoriam to the victors, the WWII generation.
