Gifford Pinchot National Forest Southern Washington State
Not much of the trail is old growth forest, most of it is secondary growth. But as luck will have it, I see a few trees that were spared the chainsaw.
I reach the end of the singletrack as I come upon Curly Creek Falls. Over the millennium it has managed to carve two natural bridges out of the rock face.
Time to slog back the other direction, back to Lewis River Lower Falls. It's paved and uphill from here, all 1,800 feet of it. I'm pretty whipped but not in a hurry, so I take my sweet time to get back.
On the way I pass by a couple of nice little waterfalls. A little eye candy to take my mind off the gray, hard asphalt.
All in all it was a good bike ride, I didn't get injured and I learned a lot about mountain biking. I think this was a good starting bike ride for me. I'm tired though, but that's a good thing. No pain, no gain, right?
Out of a maximum rating of 5 thumbs-up, this trail receives a solid 4.5 thumbs.
