I arrive at the trailhead. This hike, the first of my trip, would take me across 12.1 miles of mountain wilderness and up 3,600 feet to 9,600 feet above sea level.

I feel pretty good after the hike and decide to press on with my second hike, Bunsen Peak. I jump in the van and head out to the peak.

After the short 20 minute drive I arrive at Bunsen Peak.

Across the street there are horses for rent. I wonder if a renter can gallop the horses, it seems like an appropriate request. I swear I can hear the whisper of the wide-open spaces in this part of the park beg for some "horse speed." Maybe that whisper is from the horses?

I arrive at the trail head. The hike of Bunsen Peak will be a 4.2 mile up and back with 1,300 feet of elevation gain.
