Rather, colorful leaves. They have indeed made an appearance this morning, much to my pleasure.

OH MY GOD! WHAT HAVE I DONE!

After a bit of driving and admiring the foliage I notice an unfortunate and horrible thing has happen. I've hit a Monarch Butterfly. I wasn't sure how long it has been there, all jammed up against my windshield wiper. But by the looks of it, the wind is taking its toll on the poor critter. So I pull over and perform a rescue of sorts.

After helping the butterfly then hopping back into the van with high hopes for its recovery, I continue my drive to Lake Placid. I pass through some road construction along the way. The highway I'm driving is really well maintained. I notice NY State is really generous with the width of the shoulder which makes me wonder if the road is a worthwhile biking option during my stay in the park.
