Northwestern Montana

Inside the tunnel I discovered two large portals offering unobstructed views across the valley expanse.

Walking through one of the portals I'm greeted by this wilderness panorama.

Along my route there are sections of fallen rock and washed away road. Here's the first of many times I have to stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear. On this rebuild section I'm given zero opportunity to snap a shot or two, cars are close behind, breathing down my neck as I peddle my way through.

I arrive at the sign for Heaven's Peak and notice an adjacent forest that was decimated by fire a few years ago. Apparently many areas of the park were touched by the fires.

After a tight hairpin turn the view switches to my right side. The shoulderless road then mocks me, offering me only a short rock wall as protection against certain disaster. The traffic starts to pick up a bit at this point, fortunately no one is in a hurry and everyone gives me a wide berth. It's funny to hear folks shout "Go Lance Go" as they pass by. I enjoy their shouts of encouragement for they inspire me to push on. I guess wearing the yellow jersy probably gives them the idea.
