Lake Placid, New York

The track surface is concrete with some kind of white coating.

Earlier near the ticket booth I ran across this cross-section model of the track, illustrating how the refrigerant lines are embedded within the concrete sub-structure.

All the curves on the track are numbered. I learn that on some of the curves the riders can pull as many as 5 g's. This boils down to an interesting ride for the folks who skeleton (the sport where they ride a small sled head-first on their stomach). When they go through such curves, their head becomes so heavy (it hangs forward of their sled) that they let the face of their helmet drag/slide on the ice through the turn. That certainly explains why they can't practice skeleton in the summer months.

The track isn't all curves, there are straight-away sections as well.

There's a service road that rans alongside the track facility.

Some shots of the track from afar looking downhill.
