San Antonio, Texas

"In memory of the heroes who sacrificed their lives at the Alamo, March 6, 1836, in the defense of Texas. They chose never to surrender nor retreat. These brave hearts, with flag still proudly waving, perished in the flames of immortality that their high sacrifice might lead to the founding of this Texas."

Ahhh, there she is, The Alamo! The left picture shows the Long Barrack, the part of the mission complex that was most intact after the battle. The right picture is, of course, the old Shrine itself. She's seen quite a bit of restoration, a lot of the mission isn't original. Surprisingly, the Shrine was never completed and lacked a roof at the time of the seige and concluding battle in 1836.

A good portion of the building is original, however. You can see ravages of war at the bases of the four columns, some of the stone is missing.

Me and The Alamo.

Here's a closer look at the Long Barrack. At present it houses a number of museum exhibits that chronical the life and times of the mission.
