After completing the trail I head back to the van. I almost walk by this scene without noticing all the deer in the tall grass. They are completely still and silent. Maybe thinking we can't see them?

During the tail-end of hiking the scenic geyser trail I noticed the weather was turning grayer and gloomier by the minute. Back in the van, as I drive to my next destination, West Thumb Geyser Basin, the clouds surrender and release a torrent of rain. I suspect the temperature has dropped at least 20 degrees. So much so, I'm forced to turn off the air conditioning and turn on the heat. It's a somewhat odd experience.

At this point in the drive I'm pretty high up and am not at all surprised to see a sign announcing the fact that I've just crossed the Continental Divide. Woohoo!

Soon thereafter I reach the West Thumb Geyser Basin and am ready to start my tour.

Click here for more detail (and pictures) on my tour of the West Thumb Geyser Basin Trail.

My next destination is the Mud Volcano Area Trail. On the way there I drive through the part of the park that wasn't affected by the fires of 1988.
