In front of the Lincoln Memorial, my next sightseeing destination, I make the acquaintance of a cross-country pedaler. Our conversation is short but interesting. He's on a cross-country trip like me, however, he's doing it all on a bike. Wow! He's from Taiwan and is making his way north to Boston, MA. He left San Francisco, CA months ago and has come to realize his trip has taken longer than expected. He's a little worried now because his Visa has expired and he still has 300 miles to go. If he gets caught, he won't be able to complete his adventure. Hats off to you my friend, may the wind be to your back and may God be by your side on the rest of your wonderful journey.

Time to check out the memorial. Dedicated in 1922, the Lincoln Memorial does well to honor Abraham Lincoln and all that he did to keep the United States together during the trials and tribulations of the Civil War. Believing that all people deserved the right to be free, Lincoln pushed hard to abolish the centuries old institution of slavery.

Just a stone's throw away from the Lincoln Memorial you'll find the Korean War Veterans Memorial. On initial take, the memorial exhibits a heavy, solemn, and macambre mood. A total of 54,246 American lives were sacraficed in the conflict, and the memorial is here to remind the present and future generations of all the sacrifices the brave soldiers made in the defense of South Korea.

After touring the Korean War Veterans Memorial, I decide to walk along the Potomac River to West Potomac Park. In this park you'll find the F.D.R. Memorial, a tribute to America's only four-term President.

In transit I encounter a multitude of geese. They seem to be used to people, I can get pretty close to them. They must frequent these parts often because their droppings are all over. I have to take extra care where I place my feet.
