Bill and I are ready for some hiking adventure. According to the sign, we'll be trekking through land that once supported a farm; farmhouse, barn, sawmill, maple and apple orchards. Hmmmm, there's no mention of an outhouse. Perhaps the sign maker didn't think it was important enough so they didn't bother putting it on the sign? Call me crazy, but for me, an outhouse is waaaay more important than a sawmill. I saw wood far less than I.... well, I think you get the idea.

At the trailhead we're pummeled with an avalanche of trail-related information. Imagine being forced to read all of these placards before being allowed to hike on the trail? Can you say "information overload?" My guess is most folks don't pay much, if any, attention to it. I'm usually one of those folks. However, today will be different. This bulletin board has cartoons on it.

This little artful series discusses the importance of proper outdoor stewardship. In a nutshell, stay on the trails, don't step on the plants (unless they're dandelions of course), care guidelines of your wastes (bodily or otherwise), don't plunk down your tent on fragile environments (delicate meadows, shorelines, alpine tundra, grandma's flower garden), control your pet (they don't say you have to leash your animal so all bets are off on that one), and don't broadcast your hiking intentions lest you may get a little surprise upon your adventure's end.
