M O U N T C H O C O R U A
White Mountain National Forest Southern New Hampshire
From Carter Ledge we get a muted view of a few lakes in the far distance.
Some noteworthy tidbits encountered and captured on magnetic camera media.
More and more downward slogging, where each slothful step takes us a closer to hike's end. I'm rather tired now, I'm sure Bill is feeling it too.
To lift my spirits, I find levity in a puzzle of nature. How could a tree shed its bark in a cylindrical tube? The tree would almost have to "step out" of its bark, so to speak.
We finally reach Piper Trail. Only 0.8 miles to go.
Hurray! We've finally come to hike's end.
I must say, it's good to be down off the mountain. In summary, it was a tough hike that challenged our endurance, strength, and tolerance to the cold. I really enjoyed sharing the trail with Bill, and as always, he's proved once again to be a most excellent and treasured hiking companion. Unfortunately, the hike's major drawback was the lousy visibility. This is a big shortcoming when you consider one of the main reasons for climbing a mountain is to take in the views. Out of a possible 5 thumbs-up rating, I can only give 4 thumbs-up to my climb of Mount Chocorua.
