Northwestern Wyoming

"Congress Pool emerged in 1891, the same year scientists from around the world converged upon Yellowstone for the Fifth International Geological Congress."

This is Porcelain Springs. "Porcelain Springs presents an ever-changing face - the area may be full of water from new springs or geysers, or it could be dry and quiet."

This is Black Growler Steam Vent. "Black Growler Steam Vent, the steady stream of steam on the hill below you, has moved several times. No one knows why it shifts, disappears, and reappears. But Black Growler always roars back."

You GO growler GO!

Here's Constant Geyser. In the distance I see it spouting water so I walk over for a closer look. And of course it stops. So much for being constant. A better name would be Constipated Geyser. "Constant Geyser could catch you by surprise. Its frequent eruptions burst 20-30 feet high but last barely 10 seconds."

Okay, well the trail guide says frequent, so this is promising.

Fortunately, there's a bench in front of the geyser so I sit down to wait for the next water show. But then I get to thinking, if there's a bench then that means I'm going to have to wait around a while for this thing to go off.

Nearby there are a number of beautifully colored springs.
