Northwestern Wyoming

As I continue upward along the South Rim Trail, I notice certain rim sections exhibiting extensive erosion. Many trees are on the brink of spilling over the canyon wall.

At this point the sun is cloud-covered but dangerously low in the sky. I find myself feeling concerned that once I get to Artist Point, the sun would break free from the clouds and interfere with my picture taking. The shining sun will be just to the right of the canyon and my camera would underexpose my shots because of too much light.

With that thought in mine I begin to rush up the trail, hoping I can beat the sun before it sheds its cloudy shroud. I encounter switchback after switchback and wonder if I'll ever get to Artist Point.

But that doesn't stop me from periodically pausing and snapping a few shots of the canyon.

After a little more pushing up the trail, I finally hit the parking lot.
