Central Kentucky

Here's a pretty lousy panorama of the most visited portions of the cave system. The sun's glare did well in foiling my photo attempts, oh well. In any event, I've highlighted in red the route my upcoming tour will take.

In a nutshell, the tour will take me through the following landmarks: Carmichael Entrance, Cleaveland Avenue, Snowball Room, Boone Avenue, Thorpe's Pit, Mt. McKinley, Grand Canyon, Aerobridge Canyon, Hippodrome, Grand Central Station, Frozen Niagara, and Travertine Tour Route.

Here's more detail if you want it.

Okay, the tour is about to begin. The tour guide gives us an earful of the tour's do's and don'ts. He proves to be a pretty animated and funny fellow. I've lucked out, I think I'm going to really enjoy his tour.

Getting to the Mammoth Cave's Carmichael Entrance from the Visitor Center requires about a 4 mile bus ride. We all pile into the 3 available buses. Each and everyone of us looks rather excited, the inner child is evident everywhere.

Upon arrival to the entrance, before going in, the tour guide talks a little about the history of the cave and the geography of the area.
