Boston, Massachusetts

Now out of the construction zone, I follow the Freedom Trail to the Paul Revere House. At 19 North Square you'll find the residence of Paul Revere, downtown Boston's oldest building. Built around 1680 on the site of a former church rectory, the home at the time was both expansive and fashionable.

I'm on my way to The Old North Church now. In transit I run across this statue of Paul Revere. Ha! I didn't know he was a Boston Red Sox fan?

I enter the church property.

The Old North Church proves to be a church of antiquity. Boasting religious artifacts of tradition and history, upon entry I immediately experience strong feelings of respect, remembrance, and honor. Boston's oldest standing church, Old North Church was constructed in 1723 to provide relief to King's Chapel, which, at the time, was bursting at the seams with an ever-growing congregation.

The church's interior is spacious and ornate. In the rear of the church you'll find a 1,500 pipe double manual organ and a clock built in 1726 that is thought to be the oldest working clock of its kind.

The pews are box-like in construction, with three sides sporting benches and the fourth framing an entryway. The enclosed design served a practical purpose in winter, parishioners could huddle together with their hot coal foot-warmers to keep warm.
