Boston, Massachusetts

Here's a tomb. Pull the cover off and supposedly you'll find a stairway that leads down into a burial vault. I'm not sure if all of them are this way. I overhear a tour guide talking about such features but I'm not sure whether or not it's relegated to just the tombs of the very rich. Probably.

Within earshot of the tour guide I learn this marker is where hundreds of infants are buried. The placard has been removed for some reason.

This placard talks a little bit about Benjamin Franklin, the memorial to his parents, his upbringing. Did you know he only had two years of formal schooling? From what I've read about him, he's a genius's genius. I'd hazard to say he's probably the most celebrated, most forward-thinking personality America has ever known.

Here is where Benjamin Franklin's parents are buried.

Here is a little interesting factoid. The markers have all been moved so they're in alignment to allow for easier grounds maintenance (ie, mowing). As a result, most markers no longer mark the exact spot of who they attest is there. My guess is in the cemetery's heyday, they buried people any old which way.
