Boston, Massachusetts

This placard details both the Boston Massacre and the events leadings up to it, as well as the Boston Tea Party.

Nearby I find the markers for both Samuel Adams and the victims of the Boston Massacre. Within a low brick wall I see the markers for a number of plots. Are the plots located in front of the markers or do they lie behind them, buried within the wall itself? That's one of the problems when conducting a self-tour. If the placards don't answer your questions then you're out-o-luck.

Moving on, this placard talks about the history behind the different carvings that adorn the gravestones. Here you'll find a variety of carving genres such as "Death's Head", "Winged Cherub", and "Willow and Urn." Ha, that's odd, they don't mention "Skull and Crossbones." Assuming you want to be buried, what ornate design would you like on your gravestone?

Here are some examples of the carvings. Looking at the backs of some of the markers, it looks like they've severely eroded. Strange, was this the intended look, or are we dealing with substandard gravestones?
