Boston, Massachusetts
I've arrived at the oldest part of the cemetery. Some of these markers date way back to the 1660's.
Here are a few of them.
This placard talks about some of the craftsmen who are buried here, including the famous Paul Revere. Additionally, it contains information about 1732 burial rates:
For white man or woman | 10 shillings |
For persons 6 to 12 years of age | 7 shillings |
For children carried by hand | 6 shillings |
For negro man or woman | 7 shillings & 6 pence |
Ditto from 6 to 12 years of age | 6 shillings |
For children | 4 shillings |
For opening the new or wall tombs | 14 shillings |
For opening an old tomb | 16 shillings |
Paul Revere's final resting place (assuming they didn't relocate the marker to make the lawnmower man happy).
There are quite a few tombs in this section of the cemetery.
