The largest island in the San Juans, San Juan Island is a mix of many things. The vacation retreat abounds with harbors and coves, some are beehive busy, others are Jimmy Buffet mellow. You can find many pastoral settings as well, a good portion of the island is dedicated to farming and raising livestock. If whale watching is your thing, the western shore of the island is the place to be. Providing ample opportunities for whale watching, this part of the island butts up against the many water routes used by various species of whale when shuttling to and from Alaska.
Come with me now as I begin my tour of the island by road bike.
