Eastern Washington State

After saying farewell to the girls I hop on my bike and peddle onward until I come to Snug Habor.

Comparing harbors to dog breeds, Roche Harbor is like a high-strung toy poodle while Snug Harbor is like a old lazy basset hound. Since I like basset hounds far better than poodles, I immediately feel at home at Snug. It's like the mellow, laid-back places Jimmy Buffet describes in his songs. Heck, maybe it's here where he composed a song or two while lounging uncounted days away in this peaceful harbor nook.

Snug has cabins for rent and activities leaving from the harbor.

After eating a lunch of energy bars and dried fruit, I head out to the western side of the island for some whale watching. Prior to my whale watching the road turns a little ugly with both hills and blind turns as attested by the road signs. Glad to see the island is looking out of the bikers.

I arrive at Lime Kiln Point State Park and gear up for some serious whale watching. I find myself wondering at great length if any of the whales will leap out of the water like I've seen at Sea World in Southern California.
