Central Maine Coast
A lone boat.
Looking down from the scenery I spy an excellent example of Acadia's pink granite. Isn't it beautiful? The granite has been extensively quarried and is used all over the park.
After a little more riding I notice this placard that talks about the lighhouses in the area. In the distance I spot Egg Rock Lighthouse keeping vigil over the entrance to Frenchman Bay. According to my GPS software, the lighthouse sits atop Egg Rock. It's just a little bitty strip of land no longer than a 1/2 mile. On average, its width measures a svelte 370 feet and its maximum elevation is a ridiculous 19 feet. Yikes! I certainly wouldn't want to take a stroll on that island's rocky shores in stormy weather.
Hey, there goes Oli's Trolley. Even in early October the park is hopping with tourists.
Continuing my ride south I fall into the dreaded shadows. I'm feeling rather cold now, I can't wait to get to the southern tip of my ride to join up with the sun once again.
I pass through Acadia's official park entrance then ride on to Sand Beach.
