Central Maine Coast

I... have... to... keep... on... pedaling! I round a bend and something happens to lighten my mood.

I just about fall off my bike laughing when I see the sign. You got a thundering hole? If so, just follow the sign for some relief!

Oh wait. The sign is actually talking about an attraction called Thunder Hole. Unfortunately, the ocean is calm now, so Thunder Hole lies quiet and peaceful. However, when the ocean is rough, high waves come crashing into this small inlet. Within the inlet you'll find a small cavern which expels trapped air and water as a result of the wave action. The resulting noise from the compressed air and water is a thunderous clap.

After jumping off my bike I quickly realize I'll need to be very careful walking. The walking surface is pretty slippery and to make matters worse, my biking shoes just love to slip and slide.

With one hand firmly planted on the handrail, I make my way down to Thunder Hole. After getting a sufficient eye-full of the dormant hole, I make my way back to my bike, clinging to the hardrail all the way.
