Off with the old tire. After deflating the tube, I use a special tool to pry the tire off the rim.

The replacement tire is all folded up. I release it from its cardboard bondage. It kinda looks like a limp snake.

I try to reshape the new tire as best as I can and throw it on the ground next to the old tire. Looking at the new tire, it certainly doesn't look like it's going to work, it's just too messed up.

I pull the tube out of the box and pump it up. Oh, wait, shouldn't the tube be inside the tire first before I do this?

Well, no, an inflated tube is easier to insert into the tire. There's a little extra bend here, perhaps a cause for concern?

Nah. Let's just jam it into the tire and call it good. Next I fit the tire onto the rim.
