After circumnavigating the tower base via bouldering about 3/4 of the way around, I decide to check out the 1.3 mile trail to get a different perspective of the tower.
And to my pleasure, the perspective is vastly improved. Given the better photos, was my earlier tour near the tower's base a stupid idea? Yeah, probably. Let's just forget about all that and move on.
In the 1800s they built a 350 foot ladder in an effort to get to the top. These sight tubes were an aid at pointing out where the last remaining ladder remnants were on the rockface.
