Carlsbad, New Mexico

After about an hour of touring the cave, I finally arrive at the entrance to the Big Room, one of the world's largest caverns, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere.

To tour the Big Room I'll add an additional 1.2 miles to my underground trek. Wow, now that's what I call a BIG ROOM!

Upon entry the enormous cavern serves up the mosting interesting formations yet of my tour.

I really like this picture series, reminds me of mouths with sharp teeth.

Here's a map of the Big Room. Imagine an area consisting of 600,000 square feet. By George, you can stuff 14 football fields into that space. Simply incredible! I can't put into words what this place looks like, and even the pictures I take only show a dark, blurry, and hopelessly narrow representation of this place. The only way to get the full effect is to pay the cave a visit youself.
