Acadia National Park
Central Maine Coast

Cadillac Mountain is comprised primarily of pink granite. The Park Service uses it all over Acadia for such things as stone walls, buildings, etc. The rock is really quite pretty.

I hike over to the northwest for additional scenic viewing.

Well the time has arrived, time to go back down the mountain. I decide not to take any more pictures, I'm all pictured out. Plus, on the way up I took a lot of "turn-around" shots so in the name of eliminating redundancy, I pack away my camera. It's actually nice to sightsee without the camera. When I'm in picture taking mode, I do have to admit I feel a little like I'm "on the job" which does take away from the total sightseeing experience. But I'm not complaining, I just want to share with you what it's like to be an amateur photo-journalist/travel-writer. It's mostly good, but it's a responsibility I take semi-seriously.

On the way down the mountain I quickly meet up with Jean and Celine from Quebec City, Canada. I encounter them as they're making their way down the mountain, their progress slowed by their little puppy Dingo. I spend the rest of the hike chatting with them, talking about everything from careers to geology to politics.

Sooner than expected, we all find ourselves at the end of the trail, the hike is over. That's what happens when you chat with someone on the trail, time just flies on by.

I rather enjoyed my hike today. It was filled with different scenes, from forest settings to mountainside views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as Bar Harbor, ME. I met a few interesting people as well. All in all it was a very good day of hiking. The only downside was the chilly, windy weather.

I give my hike of Cadillac Mountain 4.5 thumbs-up out of a possible 5 thumbs.
