Wilmington, New York

There are a number of pictures and memorabilia on the walls. This picture is a winter scene of the mountaintop weather station and shelter house.

There's this great view of Lake Placid from out one of the windows.

After unveiling all of Whiteface Castle's hidden secrets I venture outside. On the way to the stone stairway I walk under the castle to a view of the surrounding forest through the 3 stone archways.

Here's a memorial plaque commemorating the Memorial Highway to just the New York WWI Veterans. As I already mentioned earlier, the memorial was later opened up to commemorate all veterans of all wars.

The elevation at the bottom of the stairs is 4,610 feet. The stair climb itself will take me up 26 stories (I assume that means 260 feet) and over 1/5 of a mile. Certainly not for the faint of heart.
