Houston, Texas

Here's an example of the single engine rocket that was used to shoot Al Shepard and Gus Grissom into outerspace. Sadly, it's glory years are long over, today it's just a dirty exhibit held up with guy wires and left to the elements. Maybe they should pressure-wash it to spiff it up a bit?

To reach the stars you've gotta have a good measure of get-up-and-go. Five of these babies were used to lift Saturn V launch vehicles into the heavens. Each F-1 Engine weighs more than 7 tons and creates 1.5 million pounds of thrust! Yikes! 2.5 minutes of thrust and 41 upward miles later, the launch vehicle easily reached a speed of 6,000 mph. Now, that's what I call MOVING!!!

This rocket engine is apparently dual purpose. It can raise rockets as well as pinch-hit as a garbage receptacle.

Here's a example of the second stage rocket engine used for the three Skylab missions.

Okay folks, the Tram Tour is a wrap. Time to head back to the Visitor Center. On the way back we pass by, of all things, cows. Now that's kinda strange. Are these space cows? Will cows be "jumping" over the moon anytime soon?
