Upstate New York

Passing through the front entrance I immediately find myself in a small hall. To my right is a large wooden door that goes to God knows where. Unfortunately it's locked.

The elevation at the bottom of the stairs is 4,610 feet. The stair climb itself will take me up 26 stories (I assume that means 260 feet) and over 1/5 of a mile. Certainly not for the faint of heart.

After surmounting the first flight of steps I'm heartily greeted by Lake Placid. It's a pretty cool lake, I just love its unusual shape.

After more stair climbing I finally reach the summit.

At the top I find myself face-to-face with the shelter house and weather station.
