Up and at'em! I wake to a sunny morning and feel a growing anticipation for the day, my first full day in the Adirondacks. I walk down to the lakeshore to see what the lake looks like in the daytime. Across the lake I see cottages of all shapes and sizes. Wish I had a canoe, it would be fun to go out and paddle around for a while.

I quickly break camp and hit the road. I have about an hours drive before I reach Saranac Lake, my bike ride's starting point.

On my way I pass by Raquette Pond. Funny, it looks more like a lake than a pond to me. It's about 2.5 miles long and 1 mile wide. Yes, it's definitely a lake. Who ever named it must have lived next to one of America's Great Lakes, causing this body of water to look puny in comparison, hence the "pond" designation?

Near Saranac Lake I jump on my road bike and make my way down the road. I have an itch to bike long distance, today I'm shooting for 60 miles. My biking adventure posted here just covers the scenic highlights. Click here for a more thorough write-up of this bike ride as covered in the biking section of the website.

My second sighting of Raquette Pond, this time from the seat of my road bike.
