Memphis, Tennessee

Entering into the exhibit I'm overwhelmed with a large screen projection of Elvis performing in Las Vegas. The film, Elvis, That's The Way It Is, was shot in 1970, 7 years before his death. Musically, he was back on the rise again, having recently come off his long hiatus from the music scene after being pulled away for years by Hollywood and their movies.

The International and American Awards Walls spread out before me. Comprised of 130 different albums and singles that are either gold, platinum or multi-platinum, the American Awards Wall continues to grow with additional and upgraded awards.

There must be 30 jumpsuits on display here. The most famous, his "American Eagle" jumpsuit and cape, is an integral part of the displayed collection.

Elvis started to wear jumpsuits around 1970 and over the course of the remaining 8 years of his life amassed more than 100 of them.

Here's a short list of some of their names:

  • Adonis suit
  • Aloha Eagle suit
  • Aloha Eagle suit blue leg inserts
  • Aloha Eagle suit red leg inserts
  • American Eagle suit
  • Apache suit
  • Aqua suit
  • Aztec suit
  • Benefit suit with blue ornaments
  • Black & White Fringes suit
  • Black Cisco kid suit with blue yokes
  • Black Cisco Kid suit with green yokes
  • Black Cisco kid suit with white yokes
  • Black Firework suit
  • Black Herringbone suit with red flares on leg
  • Black jumpsuit Herringbone suit
  • Black Matador suit
  • Black Phoenix suit
  • Black Pyramide suit
  • Black Spanish Flower suit with red stones
