During this last phase of Elvis' career, from July 31, 1969 to June 26, 1977, he played 1,145 concert engagements. Here's an interesting website that contains a database of all his shows, listing what he wore, what songs he sang, and pictures from each featured concert. Elvis' last concert was held June 26, 1977 in Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, IN to a crowd of approximately 18,000. Here's a picture of Elvis taken from his last concert. He's wearing his Mexican Sundial suit with two buttons on sleeves.

Here's the play list from his last concert:

  • 2001 Theme
  • See See Rider
  • I Got A Woman
  • Amen
  • Love Me
  • Fairytale
  • You Gave Me A Mountain
  • Jailhouse Rock
  • O Sole Mio
  • It's Now Or Never
  • Little Sister
  • Teddy Bear
  • Dont Be Cruel
  • Release Me
  • I Cant Stop Loving You
  • Bridge Over Troubled Water
  • Early Morning Rain (featuring John Wilkinson)
  • What'd I Say (featuring James Burton)
  • Johnny B Goode (featuring James Burton)
  • Larrie Londin drums solo
  • Jerry Scheff bass solo
  • Tony Brown piano solo
  • I Really Don't Want To Know (featuring Bobby Ogdin)

  • Cant Help Falling In Love
  • Closing Vamp

Before exiting the exhibit, I catch these last two displays. In 1993, the US Postal Service issued a stamp bearing the image of young Elvis. Earlier, a public poll was conducted, to determine which image of Elvis should adorn the stamp, a young Elvis or an older Elvis. By an overwhelming margin of 75% of the 1.2 million votes cast, young Elvis ruled supreme.

The last display houses an America flag folded in military funeral style, in a triangle. Elvis served in the US Army for 2 years between 1958 and 1960. This tribute is a way for the Veterans Administration to acknowledge Elvis' contributions, not only the military, but more importantly, to his country.

The time has arrived to visit the final resting place of the King, the Meditation Garden.

Elvis, parents Vernon and Gladys, and grandmother Minnie Mae are all buried here. A grave marker in memoriam to his still-born twin brother, Jesse Garon, is here as well.
